Mama's Tahitian in a Fresh Coconut

This place is screaming "tourist trap" with its Polynesian decor and gorgeous North Shore views of the beach...not to mention sky-high prices (799 Poho Place, 808-579-8488). But Eater also mentioned that despite all of that, the kitchen was helmed by a local chef who knows what he's doing.

Plus, it wasn't far from the airport, and a teammate mentioned that he wouldn't mind going, based upon a good experience that he had there before. And fortunately, we could get a table on short notice despite what is supposed to be a months-long waiting list for the more popular dinner hours.

Eater was right: the food (and drinks!) were good. That ceviche-like thing above was not just delicious but also done with care, despite that gaudy coconut serving vessel that it came in. I also had a grilled uku snapper caught just on the other side of the island. But yeah, it's also expensive enough that once is enough for me.
