Fried chicken is popular across Southeast Asia. But for some reason, there are a bazillion fried chicken places around my hotel up here in Metro Manila. And one of the most famous ones is a place called Max's. It's a 24 hour fast food place, but they have a more upscale one near our office on Bonifacio High Street, where the local team took me to lunch today.
I thus had to try the chicken, which was good, most notably because it was batterless, and thus leaving the thin crispy skin to do all of the work. We also got a kare kare, a peanut sauce-based stew that wasn't too exciting at first until I found the salty shrimp paste on the side to spike it with. I'll probably stick to the chicken.
