Japanese was requested for lunch today, so I opened up Google Maps and this izakaya showed up (3450 El Camino Real 408-246-0011). Lunchtime was all about set meals, but the dinner menu looked respectably authentic. So it was a big shock to find how much I disliked this bowl: the ikura were waaaayyy overseasoned and the uni were metallic and almost bitter (were they local Californian sea urchin?). The biggest surprise was how horrible the rice was. Seriously, I think I've been spoiled by those pearly beads at Bonta Bonta.
