From the outside, this shop at Velocity @ Novena Square (238 Thomson Road #02-26, 8942-5333) looked like a boring foodcourt-quality mala xiangguo shop with a malatang option. But it turned out to be much better than that, with that bowl above perhaps even beating Zhangliang thanks to the edginess of the spices (yay, smoky chili peppers!). I'm going to have to come back to try their mala xiangguo, especially since they had some amusing English labels for the spicy levels, like "brutally spicy" and "viciously spicy."
